Trail Description

E-bikes NOT allowed on Lower Flagline

This section of Flagline is outside the summer Elk Calving Closure. This is a continuation of the long downhill on Middle Flagline and has quite a few technical, rocky sections heading down to Swampy Lakes area. The trail can get very sandy near the bottom late in the summer.

This trail is maintained by Central Oregon Trail Alliance.

    1. jadamcrain says:

Completely clear and dry. Note that there are still a 4-5 snow patches on flagline tie to get to it.

    2. M K says:

Approximately a 6″ diameter tree down about 1/2 way down. Otherwise great shape. Also, this trail is marked intermediate, (blue), on the trail signs.

    3. BendTrails says:

Quite wet yesterday. The trail was holding water down the center of the tread for most of the way. Wasn’t muddy. That could change.

    4. NickSande says:

Cleared the one tree that was down. Running well!

    5. BendTrails says:

Cleared about 25 trees today. All clear.

    6. Mark Kastantin says:

One tree just below the junction with Flagline Tie

    7. Eric Kutter says:

No snow but a couple of 6″ deadfall.

      1. Natalie Herse says:

Two 6” trees down within 100 yards of the Flagline Tie intersection. Rest of trail is clear and riding awesome.

    8. Eric Kutter says:

All clear of trees and snow

    9. Ray Gauthier says:

Sunday 11-18 was good to go, very little snow.

    10. Tristan S says:

Lower flag is absolutely ripping right now. Some frosty spots but no actual snow – just tack.
One large tree down, with a branch across the trail to slow you up for it.

      1. Ryan Pedersen says:

        Trees are clear. Rip away!

    11. Ryan Pedersen says:

Couple trees down. One near the intersection with Swampy that is pretty easy to ride around. The other is near the larger rock garden in the exposed area. Both are decent sized 8-10″

    12. Natalie Herse says:

First tracks on the fatbike in 3-5″ new snow. Woot. Starting to melt and congeal by the end of the ride with spots of standing water.

    13. Brian Coop says:

One tree down. Might be able to move it with more than one person, but too big for handsaw or just me to drag.

      1. Ryan Pedersen says:

Cleared this AM. Ride on ride on.

    14. Jay Marsh says:

Clear of deadfall & snow, riding great!

    15. Adam Tate says:

Flagline Tie and Lower Flag line had 8 large trees down. Still too many snow patches.

    16. Brian Coop says:

Does anyone know why the “Trail Closed” sign is posted at the bottom of Lower Flagline instead of the Flagline Tie/Flagline intersection?

      1. Joe Myers says:

I asked my FS contact. Will let ya know.

      2. Dave Wardwell says:

Flagline is closed until next week for the elk. It will be open next week.

        1. Middle Flagline is closed until August 15th. Lower Flagline shouldn’t have a sign on it.

      3. Ryan Pedersen says:

Confirmed with Joe Welke @ NFS that this section of trail was closed by mistake. He’s given the green light to pull down sign and/or move the logs if you can.

    17. There a pretty big tree down about two thirds of the way down Lower Flagline. Actually it’s two trees and some saplings that all shared the same root-ball.

    18. Evan Smith says:

      All trees cleared!

    19. Eric Kutter says:

Updating to riding well since there are just two trees down. I suspect those will be cleared pretty soon here as the HCC100 will be going along here in 2 weeks.

    20. Eric Kutter says:

Mostly riding well but a couple of downed trees. No unrideable snow. But there are some wet patches closer to the lakes.

      1. James Moro says:

        any updates?

        1. Kevin Slane says:

          2 trees otherwise perfect

    21. Dustin Balderach says:

all clear, but dry and dusty
