E-bikes allowed on Cloverpatch
The Cloverpatch trail is often ridden as part of the ATCA epic ride after descending Tire Mountain, and for that reason we’ve highlighted the whole route even though only the lower segment is actually the Cloverpatch trail. The middle segment involves climbing forest road NF-5826 (Tire Creek Road) and NF-130. After the road sections, you’ll climb the Cloverpatch Tie and Alpine Connector before rejoining the lower Alpine Trail.
An equal mix of climbing and descending, Cloverpatch is a ‘big’ climb and getting back up to the level of Alpine takes a big effort. Luckily the trails are well-built and the switchbacks near the top, while they feel endless, make the climb doable.
Similar to Tire Mountain, Cloverpatch is deep, loamy, and lush. Which of course also means there’s going to be poison oak. Plan accordingly.
Needs some brushing badly once you get into the thick.
