E-bikes NOT allowed on Cone Peak
Cone Peak extends off the Iron Mountain trail to form a nice loop if you add in the hike back along Highway 20. Expect open meadows, volcanic craggy rock formations and abundant wildflowers in season.
Cone Peak has limited hiking use, so this trail makes for a better descent and less conflict if you are riding the loop.
note fire activity in the area. Trail appears open but trailhead closed on fire map.
Too many hikers during wildflower season.
Two trees down. Both fairly easy to get around/over. Other than that trail is in great shape. Labor Day weekend and I didn’t see another person. Love it!
Lots of traffic over the weekend. It should die off after the wildflower insanity ends. Did some trimming on the climbers trail to the peak, a fun 20 minute scramble to amazing views. Find it near the lunch rock area, where the trail takes a 90 degree bend below the peak.
Based on yesterday’s traffic Cone Peak gets as much hiking use if not more than the lower Iron Mountain trail. The Iron Mountain summit trail does get added use from people parking at the upper trailhead at the end of NF-038 road.
